Etown ponders tiny homes

Currently, the township requires houses be a certain square footage; minimum house sizes currently range from 65 to 85 square metres at minimum for most zones, with an exception being a minimum of 140 square metres currently required in the “estate residential” zone.

In order to facilitate the development of tiny homes, they are proposing to remove the minimum square footage requirements for all zones except estate residential, an area where many subdivision lots are located.

The changes are part of a bylaw update, which is the continuation of a years-long process of the township’s official plan. Updating the bylaw would simply implement the details of the official plan passed in September 2018, of which the tiny home development is one.
